The Target post

A twitter friend of mine wrote a post about coming across a young man, at Target, and it's a must read. It'll take less than 2 minutes of your time. Not looking for an award; just acceptance.

Just a lil' blog: The Target post

SPD and holiday crowds

I don't hide the fact that I have sensory processing disorder (SPD). I try and embrace it. But when holidays come around, my SPD can get in the way.

For instance, I like browsing down store aisles when it's a regular time of year. However, during the holidays, I get in and out in record time. I usually have to find a quiet spot and breathe for a few minutes. I get that. I usually go to stores when they first open or after 6pm. That way it's less traffic times.

There have been some times when I get stuck in crowds and I have to use a sensory input, such as a stress ball or squeeze ball, to keep on going.

For me, this is my normal. It gets me all riled up when people are pushy and rude at the stores. I get that people are in a rush but they are missing something.

Sure, you want to finish your to-do list but remember everyone has a reason for being there.

Embrace the holiday season!!

I need a do over for today

Today has not been a good day. I wish I could kiss my Sensory Processing Disorder goodbye sometimes. It irritates me to no end. Today was one of those days. I desperately need new clothes for student teaching. I mean, I have a few sweaters and pants, but need clothes and "new" clothes. Problem(s): I have SPD and everything has to be extremely SOFT (think baby soft), am sensitive to smells and noise, don't like loud music, and am just overwhelmed, in general, with the whole experience.

My mom was nice enough to go to the stores with me but I got really emotional and fast. I try, I really do, but it's a difficult thing for me. I haven't got new clothes in a few years and am due but the getting there is the difficult thing.

I am not trying to complain. I am just venting. Shopping, for me, has never been a favorite. SPD is something I will always have but I wish it was not so ever present.

I want & need your advice...PLEASE

I start Student Teaching a week from Wednesday (gulp)! I need your advice, suggestions, and opinions on what I can and can not wear while ST. I understand no low tops or pants (which I don't do anyway) but what do you like to see on your kids' teachers and friends? What is in style? Anything I should absolutely not wear? What do you like seeing on teachers?

To help you with your thoughts, I know that I will be in first grade through March 12th and then will be in forth grade through the beginning of May. I think I'll do more pants for first grade but have no sense of style. {Can't believe I am admitting this but it's true}

I need ideas for what to wear, combinations, what would look great, and what I should never attempt to wear together. I am six feet tall and wear a size 11/12 in Mens {that's 14/15 in Women}. I am looking at flats, that I can find, and closed toed shoes. I am no where near a size six, in size, right now but am working on it. I don't particularly like shopping for myself, let alone clothes, but am in desperate need of the teacher look!!

Ready...set...go (tell me what you like to see on teachers and professionals)!!

I really value your opinions and advice!!

The day I got searched @ Walmart

So this morning I was up bright & early and headed to Wally-world for some groceries & 8 cases of water bottles for my brother's boy scout troop. Nothing big (except the cart) and it was actually a pleasant trip. I decided after lifting the 8 cases of water that I would come back for the body wash, tank tops for dad/brother, and some miscellaneous items. SO I go home, unload and think that I will try Target to try to avoid that second trip. NOT GONNA happen. So within the hour...I was headed to Walmart for the second time for the tanks (which Target did not have) & the miscellaneous items. I checked out & then it happened...

I was asked to step aside as I was leaving. I was a little confused why and at first was not told. I was asked to empty my pockets w/the keys only inside. Then I was patted down searched and then the people finally told me that they had to search me so the lady behind me was not "singled out for shoplifting." I was then asked for my receipt, they looked over it, and was let go. I hung around for a few moments to watch.

Apparently this 40+ year old lady stuffed stuff in her shirt, used reusable bags to load up and did not pay. She walked through the self-check out and still did not pay. She definitely had $100+ dollars worth of unpaid, "stolen" stuff. There was an "undercover" Walmart employee who had apparently been following this lady for quite some time and approached her at the door along with two women and the scrawny manager. They told the "suspect" that she was not going to leave...she tried to push through the manager, but had no luck. She tried to "get out of it," but had no luck and continued to curse the Walmart people out. After they apprehended her...I went to my car. As I was pulling out of the parking lot...the police arrived.

SO there you have it...a day with an adventure! I was a little startled by the whole situation...BUT I got over it. Just shows you what people do sometimes.

A little taste of summer

So I did a little shopping today and found 2 great swimsuits at Old Navy. The blue one is the style I got and the pinkish top is the other color/design I got but could not find a picture of it. Last summer I got a swimsuit from O.N. and loved it! I am just hoping these two hold up to the standards ;)
This is the swimsuit cover up I got too. I think it could be a dress too, but seriously my long legs and this are no match, so alas, it is a cover up!

As far as my last post/this post is concerned...I am still having an "off" day but the afternoon/evening was much better. Well, I am back off to pack, clean, and repeat over and over again. I start taking a few things over tomorrow, but Saturday is the BIG DAY! I have a crew of five or six coming to help me and I can't wait. I have two guys in the mix of five/six people coming to disassemble the bed, move it, and reassemble it. I promise to take picts of the new place too. I am also supposed to lose my connection to the Internet Friday and will have it in the new place on Saturday evening. Just FYI! Hope ya had a great Thursday! Can't believe the week is almost over (wink) and the weekend is upon us!

In General...

In general, I have to say, I have a had a good couple of days.
No tears, no fits, just me and my domestic side.
I sometimes want to lay around and sleep but if I do,
I will not be able to sleep that night.
Life is full of surprises and good things too.
I am thankful for my friends and family
who support me too.

Life around my house has been blissful these past couple of days. I have been doing the laundry, the cooking, the carpool, grocery shopping, and cleaning a bit. I have been trying to eat really healthy and loose a little weight and successfully I say, I have succeeded. I am still drinking my shakes and eating healthy, but one thing I notice is that I am drinking SO MUCH liquid. Guess that is a good, new habit.

I also got two new dresses and a couple of shirts yesterday. Normally I do not like to shop, but something came over me and I actually had fun ;)

Life has been good lately and I can not complain...
Thanks for reading!

Have a great Friday Night!!!

Weekend Review and randomness...

This weekend was great. I got a new bathing suit in a smaller size than I thought I could fit into, got a new book to read in my spare time (when is that exactly?), and had an amazing dinner from Cracker Barrel last night.

So today started out strong and cold, 36 degrees to be exact. With the wind blowing it feels much colder. I went to my economics class and found out that I just did ok on my test. My teacher said that since I missed so much class due to illness, we would weigh the other tests differently. So that really lifted me up. Then I went and preformed some of my special projects Editor duties. I also learned that I will receive more scholarship money next semester. Some great news right? Then I ate and now I am back at the dorm and doing homework. My plan is to do homework for about 5 hours, go to work, then come back and do more HW. What a plan!!!

PS- I went and looked around at CATO yesterday and they have some great clothes. So next weekend, I plan to go do my least favorite thing (try on clothes) and also get some new clothes! I like looking just not trying on, so I will let you know how it goes!

Hope all of you have a great week!!!

An update...finally

So sorry that it has been over a month since I have updated! First I got pneumonia in both lungs, then I had the flu, along with my asthma acting up, so February was a complete wash. I missed 3 weeks of college and continue to feel tired. But I am hoping to get all my energy back soon. Being sick is no fun either. I had zero energy and spent most of my time at home, feeling sick. My parents took me home on 2/1 and I returned to classes on 2/25. The result of missing 3 weeks of classes was not that bad. I had to drop my science class and I will just take it in the fall. Other than that, I have some computer assignments to complete, but I am actually all caught up-finally!!! What a relief!!!

Now as far as right now, I am really happy! Today I slept in (which I have not done in one month), then went to breakfast and got a complement from some football players that I "look good and have lost weight." I did not initially know what to say, but I am now really happy they noticed! Then I went shopping. I really loathe doing this, but when I am by myself, I am actually OK. So I went to Old Navy (got a bathing suit in a smaller size than I thought I could fit into), went to Lifeway, and Target. I found some really cool books for my Preschool class and also surprised myself! Then I went to HEB and got this week's groceries. Then I went to Subway and have been back in the dorms since 6:30.

So this typical (not) college student is now doing homework and about to get ready for bed. I feel so relaxed. Now only if my back would stop hurting. Why does it hurt? I slid off my bed while I was asleep this week and it messed it up.

To this day, I have lost 35 pounds! Woo Hoo!!! How and when? I have lost the weight over six months. How-I have been eating LOTS of fruits and veggies. Have been eating lean cuts of meat and have cut out all breads. I am also eating fat free yogurts and oatmeal. Yes I still eat gluten free pretzels and rice cakes, but in moderation. I also cut out all pasta and soft drinks!
I believe that eating smaller portions have also helped. Now I am not saying that I have the occasional bowl of ice cream, but not every day.

Now as for exercise-I am walking and currently go up about 5 flights of stairs on a daily basis. I sometimes do not even realize that I do this, but I do not mind it much anymore. I actually like doing it sometimes.

So this concludes my update! I hope all of you have a great weekend and a wonderful week!!!
