Remembering 9-11 MckLinky Blog Hop

I remember the day as if it were yesterday. I was in 7th grade and that morning seemed surreal. I was at school when the towers hit and my mom came to get me. I was in shock and really did not, at first, understand why someone would kill people without a blink of an eye. I had many emotions and feelings going through my head and was just plain scared.

That day...I will never forget...the day the world changed on 9-11-01. It kindof made me think of why someone would hit the towers on "9-11" but now I know. I know that people are cruel and that those who took many lives that day did not care at all. But this was way too much for a 7th grader to comprehend. I just remember the world changing on this day and I will never forget this date.

Darryl Worley wrote a song "Have you forgotten" and these are the lyrics. Every single time I hear it...I tear up. No one will forget this day.

I hear people sayin'.
We Don't need this war.
I say there's some things worth fightin' for.
What about our freedom, and this piece of ground?
We didn't get to keep 'em by backin' down.
They say we don't realize the mess we're gettin' in
Before you start preachin' let me ask you this my friend.

Chorus
Have you forgotten, how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away

Have you forgotten, when those towers fell
We had neighbors still inside goin through a livin hell
And you say we shouldn't worry bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?
You took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbin for you and me
It'll just breed anger is what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it everyday
Some say this country just out lookin' for a fight
Well after 9/11 man I'd have to say right.

Chorus
Have you forgotten, how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten, when those towers fell
We had neighbors still inside goin through a livin hell
And you say we shouldn't worry bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
you can bet they remember just what they're fightin' for

Have you forgotten
All the people killed
Yes some went down like heroes
In that Pennsylvania field

Have you forgotten
About our Pentagon
All the loved ones that we lost
And those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry 'bout Bin Laden

Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten?!

No one can forget this sight that was portrayed on the news on this day...

Blog Hop: Encouragement time

There are days I want to just crawl in a hole and hibernate. Their are days when I just want to scream since things are not going my way. There are days when I just don't know if I can take any more hurdles before me. But I know I can always count of HIM to help me through the "dark."

How do I count on HIM you ask? I pray each prayer request/concern and give it ALL to HIM. My mom told me a while ago that I can not "fix" other people's problems but I really want to help. I want to "lend a hand" all the time...but I can't. She told me..."Elyse, all you can do is PRAY and give it all to HIM. HE hears your prayers...remember that." She is so right on this one.

Remember Carrie Underwood's song...Jesus take the Wheel? The chorus always sticks out to me and I LOVE repeating it over and over again when I am down. HE hears my prayers and HE will show me the way, the truth, and the light!

Favorite part from Jesus take the Wheel
& Most encouraging message:
Jesus take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this on my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I'm on
Jesus take the wheel

Oh I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
Save me from this road I'm on
From this road I'm on
Jesus take the wheel

REMEMBER: HE will always be YOUR way, YOUR truth, & YOUR light!!! He WILL take the wheel and give you many chances! All you have to do is pray and give it all to him. Time may not be of the essence, but eventually your path from HIM will be shown!!!

Favorite Recipe or dish with Bloghop

Ok, so if you are new to my blog, WELCOME! If you are not, then you know by know that I ADORE to cook. Being a college student during the fall/spring allows me time to become creative and express myself on a whole new level. One of my favorite recipe's is Black Bean Stew. It is easy to make, throw in the crock pot, and just leave it to cook. It is easy, quick, and relatively inexpensive as well!

Black Bean Stew: makes about 8 servings...great leftovers

3 or 4 15oz cans black beans, drained
1.5 cups finely chopped onion
1.5 cups finely chopped green bell pepper
1.5 cups chopped celery
2 tsp crushed garlic
2 tsp grounded thyme
1.5 tsp oregano
1.5 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional...it gives a BIG kick if wanted)
1 8oz can of tomato sauce
2 cups broth (chicken or veggie)

Put everything in a crock pot and cook on low for 6 hours. Mine says that 6 hours was high, but just do what ever your crock pot has. Serve with brown/white rice.

This is a HUGE hit in my home as I store it in the refrigerator for several days and just make more rice as need. Easy to make on a cold day or just when life throws you one curve ball after another. ENJOY!!!
