After the bite: processing

It's no secret that I teach special education nor is it a secret that I LOVE every minute of it.

However, it's not all flowers and sweets in the classroom. In special education, teaching can be lots of ups and downs and unexpected turns. I've been scratched, hit, screamed at, yelled at, and have had chairs thrown at me. However, Thursday threw me into a new category.

I have now been bit and it threw me into a loop. I didn't expect it nor could I have predicted it.
Procedures were followed, to a degree, but no one could predict that I would be attacked. Reports have been filed at the school and district level. It's hard since the attacker is a special ed student who may or may not quite get that hurting someone is wrong. She had remorse but I can't guarantee she knew it was wrong. She has multiple issues.

Today, and this weekend, I am just processing it. It is quite painful and that Tdap shot hurt just about the same. I am not afraid of this student, though. It is a roller coaster of emotions, though and I'd like off this ride.

Today, I will just process and breathe!!

EIGHTH concussion: Game over

On Friday, August 13th, a boy went down while playing in a football scrimmage. This boy was not on my brother’s team. It did not look good as no pads nor helmet was removed and the boy seemed lifeless on the field as paramedics worked on him. On Monday, the team and parents were told by the Athletic director, via email, that the boy had had several concussions before and was in a total neck brace to stabilize his neck for the time being.

What we were told next was shocking. This was the boy’s EIGHTH concussion and the last one he had made him sit on the sidelines all season last year. This concussion was the most severe a concussion can be. His football days are over as he is now in a neck brace and the Athletic Director will not let him step foot on the field again.

My question is-why did the coach or the parents let him play after the first or second concussion? Did they not remember that football is just a GAME and it should not be a life or death call? Were they afraid of letting the boy down? Why allow this boy to shatter his life before it starts? I do not have these answers but am still shocked that this boy was even allowed to play with his concussion history.

The new A.D. told our parents that the boy would not be playing again. Football should not be a life or death sport. Football is just a game. Even my brother said, “It’s not worth your life.” Play the game and not with your life!

Life is precious at any age!!

A prayer needed for my brother...

My sweet brother will start the 7th grade off in a sling. On Thursday, he was at football practice and some 8th grader hit him really hard in the right shoulder. So it was really hurting him and on Friday, my mom and dad took him to the doctor since it was swollen and he could not move it up or down well. The doctor did not like this, so he got a x-ray done and then he did not like that his shoulder would not move up or down, so an MRI was ordered. Well, he has the MRI on Monday afternoon and will likely miss practice again (missed on Friday as well). I pray that the doctors are able to figure out what is going on with him and that Christopher fights to regain his shoulder strength and mobility. He is also right handed too. What his luck. What a way to start out the 7th grade!

PLEASE pray that the doctors figure out what is wrong and that Christopher fights to regain his shoulder mobility.

A picture would be nice but blogger is not allowing me to imput pictures right now.

Fight Christopher Fight!!!
